Welcome to the Baldwin Writers Group.

We encourage writers, poets and those associated with the writing arts to develop and improve writing and creative skills. All meetings are open to members (18 years old and older) and guests. Newcomers are encouraged to join and become members of the literary scene in Baldwin County.
Membership fees are $15 per year and are used to fund events and other expenses (anyone who has already paid membership fees for the next year please see Jennie Tudor).

Hi--

Welcome to the Baldwin Writers Group Web site. We've had a lot going on lately. A little of what we've been up to will be listed here, but to see all that we've been doing, check out the Minutes link or click here.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, May 19, 2012
10am to Noon at the Daphne Public Library.

Our next meeting will feature special guest Israel J. Parker.

Israel will give a short introduction and then lead the group in discussing self-promotion. He has been very successful in promoting his book, The Anne Marie, so we asked him to join us and give us some insight on what he did to promote his book and himself.

Last month's discussion on YA literature was very interesting and educational and May's discussion promises to be the same.

We need everyone to show with any questions or information about promoting your book and yourself. Self-promotion is something any writer will need to do when going through a traditional publishing process or self-publishing, so don't miss this meeting.

Suprise, Short Notice Mini Writing Contest!
This contest is being given with almost no notice!

For our next meeting, we'll be having a very short notice MINI CONTEST.

There is absolutely, NO THEME. Any short story that meets the criteria may be entered.

HERE ARE THE RULES. All entries must be submitted by e-mail to steven@baldwinwritersgroup.com no later than 11:59:59pm on May, Thursday the 17th. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON this month.

Our mini contests are held on a semi-regular basis (approximately every other month) until about August or September of 2012.

You have a limit of 1,000 words to create a short story (sorry, again this month, no essays or poems). Entries must be family friendly. If your entry is too long it will not qualify.

No need to make copies of your work. The winning entry will be read at the meeting.

May's winner will receive bragging rights and a $10 gift card to Panera Bread.

The stories from this contest (winners and non-winners) will be added to previous contest entries and when there are enough to print a book, they will be published. Understand that not every entry will be guaranteed to be in the book, but so long as they meet the contest requirements, the entries will most likely be included. Members will be able to purchase the books at a reduced cost.

You must be present to win, but you don't have to be present to have your story added to the book.

Only members may submit entries to the mini contests.

This month we're accepting entries from all writers belonging to local writers groups.

The 2012 Write Tight workshop is now open for registration.
